Adhesives
and Coatings
SAF produces films primarily for
use in adhesive applications. We also manufacture thermoplastic
coatings for anti-fray, stiffening and stabilization of fabrics.
Following are methods to activate or apply our adhesives:
- Heat Lamination
- Hot air, steam activation
- Heat Presses
- RF bonding
- Flame Lamination
- Dielectric Welding
Materials:
Polyester
- SAF offers several Polyester
materials which bond to a variety of substrates. These materials
are available with a wide heat sealing range, typically from
250^ to 400^. Polyester exhibits a very good resistance to washing
and is used extensively in apparel applications.
Polyamide (Nylon):
- These materials are known for
their resistance to chemicals and help create a firm hand.
Polyurethane:
- There are two specific types
of PU adhesive films:
- Aliphatic: non-yellowing adhesives, which are
optically clear
Aromatic: high performance adhesives, which bond aggressively
to many other polymers, such as such as PVC, ABS, and PET.
Polyolefin:
- Low cost films which bond to
a wide range of metals, plastics and fabrics
Rubber:
SAF produces a modified form
of Nitrile rubber that allows it to be backed with any of our
standard adhesives. This material is resistant to a variety of
chemicals, UV stable and can be heat welded to itself.
